Il y a environ un an, j’ai utilisé un titre que beaucoup ont soulevé les sourcils à savoir « nous n’avons pas encore tout vu de Grégory Demaret ».....
Avec les résultats qui ont été fixés à l’époque aux niveaux provincial, national et international, nous nous attendions à plus d’une légère amélioration, plus qu’une progression. Lorsque vous grimpez au plus haut classement, il devient de plus en plus difficile et redesser est la voie la plus évidente à suivre.
Mais c’est sans tenir compte de la volonté de Grégory. Une volonté et une persévérance intactes couplées à une solide équipe de pigeons semble être une formule qui fonctionne et donne des résultats.
Grégory Demaret devient Demaret-Marichal
Premières choses d’abord... il y a le changement de nom. Là où ils ont couru jusqu’à la saison dernière sur le nom de Grégory lui-même, ils l’ont changé en 2020 pour le tandem Demaret-Marichal. Thierry Marichal, depuis des années le contact et conseiller de Greg, était déjà actif dans les coulisses en tant que conseiller et livreur de pigeons pour le pigeonnier d’élevage. Thierry, qui est directeur sportif d’une équipe cycliste, ne peut pas faire du temps libre qui est nécessaire pour s’occuper sérieusement du sport des pigeons, a pris dans son temps une grande partie de l’élevage. C’est une situation gagnant-gagnant, Thierry peut tester ses pigeons reproducteurs chez un grand amateur de course et Grégory peut en partie utiliser la source d’élevage de Thierry et ne pas avoir à trop s’occuper des éleveurs. Aussi dans une question de sport lui-même et la vision qu’ils sont au même rythme.
Rester au fait des choses
Vers la saison, nous nous sommes appelés de temps en temps. Ne l’appelez pas discuter, mais sentir comment nous pourrions ou pourrions préparer l’extrême longue distance dans cette covid19-saison. D’abord il n’y avait pas de courses ou de programme, puis tout d’un coup il y en avait et c’est devenu un programme fumant avec plus d’une course le week-end le même jour.
Aucune preuve pour préparer quelque chose comme ça bien organisé. Il était clair que Greg a pris la tactique de « tenir vos chevaux ». Tant qu’ils n’étaient pas clairs sur le moment où le programme pouvait être pris sur, les chevaux (lire pigeons) ont été tenus à court. Ils ont fait attention à l’état et la santé de base et leur a donné une certaine intensité d’entraînement, mais c’était sans exagérer ou entrer dedans à pleine vitesse. Les pigeons ont obtenu leur vaccination nécessaire (également une vaccination contre le parathypoid) mais ont été assombris aussi longtemps que possible. Et ils choisissent aussi de ne pas courir les courses de la vallée du Rhône vu le programme lourd.
Ceux qui ont mis l’accent sur la courte, moyenne et longue distance avaient besoin d’obtenir leurs pigeons prêts un peu plus tôt, les coureurs de fond extrêmes avaient besoin d’attendre encore plus longtemps. Et c’est ce que Greg peut faire comme l’un des meilleurs, il peut mordre sur ses dents si nécessaire et agir comme un tireur d’élite ... et cette patience a été récompensée très riche plein.
L’assombrissement a été arrêté assez tard, puis les pigeons étaient préparés pour le plus grand travail. Beaucoup de courses d’entraînement et de kilomètres de demi-fond ont été faits pour obtenir la routine en eux ... et cela semblait fonctionner. L’intensité des entraînements était augmentée et leur forme est arrivée au bon moment... et cela a donné des résultats.

Shine on Narbonne and Barcelona
The outliers of the years are off course the 2nd National Narbonne year birds with a hen and the 5th National Barcelona on the very heavy edition of 2020. It is the first year that they raced hens and this as a test to see whether they could get head pigeons with this game.
On Narbonne it was quasi a hit in the rose with a super yearling hen that almost took care of a stunt and was only beaten by the international winner from Yves Van De Walle out of the nearby village Mont de L’Enclus.
But on Narbonne it was a true festival of pigeons that placed themselves in the top of the ranking. Narbonne is for Grégory the race of the races and loaded all his munition he had on this beautiful international race.
Both with the year birds and with the old ones they raced 4 pigeons within the first 100 national or in other words 8 pigeons in the top 100 national. Impressive !
On the very heavy Barcelona it was ‘Matteo’ (BE16-1072511) who took care of the surprise and won the 5th national and the 19th international. This 4-year old cock came home after this very heavy race without any signs of exhaustion, a proof of the toughness of the pigeons from Grégory.
Matteo didn’t get it from any strangers. His father is direct from the loft of Christian Demaret from Havre. Christian won two years ago the race out National Perpignan. The confirmation of the strength of this pigeons from Christian that are stooled on the Dutch long distance strains from Vanderwegen and Aarden. The mother is one out the own old strains from Gregory.
These pigeons set an unbelievable result…but these aren’t the only top pigeons on the lofts in Herquegies. Next two cracks can’t be forgotten on the stage namely

A warned man is worth two !
We could fill a few more pages with a few top pigeons and results out of this extreme long distance colony, but we like to limit us to the tops of the past season.
The ambition keeps on burning to make progress and to improve these results. This isn’t an evidence as the extreme long distance also brings in bigger risks on losses or disaster races. The selection remains extremely hard on the lofts in Herquegies. It isn’t a coincidence that there is a saying hanging on top of the door “vaincre ou mourir” (win or die). This Spartan selection separates the wheat from the chaff in an honest way.
The widow cocks proved and exceeded what they already had proven in the past. First they had a test session with the hens on the extreme long distance and also that was an unexpected success with a 2nd National Narbonne.
Due to the cooperation with Thierry Marichal they got a new strain on breeding blood that also doesn’t know its equal within the long distance world namely this from top loft Joost Desmeyter. The chance is big that this also will give a quality injection to this pigeon team.
Mais attention... un signal qui n’est pas si frappant parmi les autres résultats, mais est très sens plein vers l’avenir. L’année où les oiseaux sont courus comme un « père » sur les chapelles dans une volière. L’objectif est de leur faire vivre le plus d’expérience possible pour être en mesure de briller à l’âge de 2 ans. Sur Brive national avec les oiseaux de l’année, ils panier 12 pigeons et ceux-ci ont couru 12 prix sur les 12 nationaux à partir de la 80e sport. Sans aucune forme de motivation, ces pigeons ont montré qu’ils avaient tout pour pouvoir assumer le travail lourd et ce, espérons-le, dès la saison 2021.
Un signal très prometteur pour l’année prochaine. Cette qualité couplée à l’effort débridé de Grégory montrera beaucoup de belles choses à l’avenir. En attendant, il apprécie les résultats merveilleux.
